Another Catch up on The Last Day!!

Sorry for my absence...yet again. With Thanksgiving, doctor's appointments, Hubby's work schedule, and trying to get ready for the holidays...well, I haven't really been in the blogging mood. We have so much coming up in December (just like November) and I'm overwhelmed with just a few of those items.

For the time being...let focus on what I was thankful for these last 9 days I missed. {little to no description}

Day 22 :: The feel of accomplishing things

Day 23 :: Support Systems

Day 24 :: Church Family

Day 25 :: The Joy this time of year brings

Day 26 :: Generous, Giving People! (Someone gifted us a Turkey!)

Day 27 :: Non-School Days (aka No Alarm Setting Days)

Day 28 :: ALL MY FAMILY!! (See my Facebook post for more on this one!)

Day 29 :: The incredible satisfaction I get from staying home on Black Friday!! {although, a local store was running a toy sale -- BOGO 75% off!! So I got the kids Christmas and Birthday gifts on black friday}

Day 30 :: The smiles on my kids faces when I kiss them goodnight!

ON TO DECEMBER! No challenges (which might make blogging a bit more fun for me again!) and just looking forward to Christmas Break...a whole 2 weeks without setting the alarm!!

Thankful Catch-Up

Day 16 -
Food!
I love all things food! Food is so good! I wish I knew how to make more and was able to explore the ins-and-outs of cooking more. Food is something to bond over, and I think that's my favorite part of food. I love that family gatherings start when meal planning starts. I love that they end with splitting what's left and making sure everyone goes home satisfied with left-overs!
My favorites are:
Main Dish: tacos (a family fav), pizza, BBQ pulled chicken or pork
Sides: mashed potatoes with ketchup (don't judge), corn, broccoli-cauliflower salad
Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake, Ice Cream, Apple Crisp
Junk Food: Cheez-its (Cheddar Jack), Oreo's, Skittles
Other: Salads, Blueberries, Baked Goods (muffins and cookies are a fav.)

Day 17 -
My Father and Father-in-Law!
Each have done so much for our families. They provide support, love, knowledge, lead by example, and so much more.
My dad taught me to play sports, love classic cartoons, and was an example of what a husband and father should be to his family. He was involved in my schooling by being on the school board and making sure that the best education was available to me. My dad continues to love his family and support them through his great wisdom and his lasting patience (which can only come with raising four stubborn girls!). I love you, Dad! Thanks for always being there.
Hubby's dad is full of knowledge in so many areas. He's not afraid to try anything once when it comes to fixing things. He's always willing to learn and teach. He has always worked hard for his family and continues to support them with his wisdom.

Day 18-
Storms!
Although I love storms and the strange relaxation they bring to me I'm not a fan of the weather we had this past Sunday. We had threat of severe weather that included tornado warnings north and south of us. We never did see this severe weather but we did experience a good thunderstorm along with some frightening wind. There were a few things we had under our play deck that blew out all over our yard. Our friends and their neighbor both had damage to their roofs. There were trees down in the area and many were without power for a few days.
I still am thankful for storms though. They bring me a giddy feeling, an exciting anxiousness that...it's inexplicable. I just love them!

Day 19-
Coffee Break!
Love the ladies in Coffee break! Love the leaders! Love the fellowship! Love the Bible Study!
I'm so thankful for all these things. God created women to be relational and Coffee Break is a great way that I get to fulfill part of who God has called me to be!
This year we are doing two studies. This study we are in right now is amazing! Not only do I love reading books/studies by Priscilla Shirer but I love the encouragement and the realness she brings to it all! If you get a chance to pick up a study by her I would encourage you to DO IT! The one we are studying right now is called One In A Million.

Day 20-
Volunteering (in P-man's School)
I like volunteering but in the past few years (since having little ones) it has been hard. Luckily, P-man has entered a school that loves to have parents volunteer in the classroom. Especially in Kindergarten. There is a parent volunteer in the class for 2 hours - 3 days a week. I have done it three times (there are lots of parents that volunteer and we are on a monthly rotating schedule). Not only do I get to know the kids he is with all day long but I also get to see how he interacts in school. Sometimes he forgets I'm there and I get that "fly on the wall" experience.
I'm thankful that I get to experience all this right now. I'm thankful I get to show P-man about helping others, volunteering, and showing him, most importantly, that I am involved in his education and for his education!

Day 21-
Time with Twinners
Since the twinners have been around P-man has always been there too. Since P-man has started school though I get special time to just spend with the twinners. For just over 7 hours I get the twinners all to myself. I get to take them shopping, on play dates, read books, watch them play, spend time with them that P-man got to experience when the twinners would take naps!
I'm so thankful for this time to help them grow into young kids that love God and are caring and joyful and just plain awesome kids!

Thankful Day 15

My Angel Babies!

It's been seven years...I wrote last year on my personal blog that it felt like forever and it felt like just yesterday. Sometimes it just doesn't seem real, yet it's too real. These feelings are still so present in this year.

This year has been different. I didn't dwell on my loss like in years past. I took the time I needed; we remembered, we went to the cemetery, and we talked with the kids about their older brothers.

I'm thankful for each precious day I carried them in my womb and for each precious second I held them on earth. I thank God that he blessed me with two babies and that He cares for them now in Heaven. I'm thankful I get to see them again in eternity!

This will be the first time I have shared them with the world in a picture.

Thankful Day 14

Girls Night Out!!!     (I wish there was a glittery font for this!) :)

I get two this week! One was last night (on the 14th) and the other is tonight! WOW! I hardly ever get one...maybe I should have spread them out more??

I think there will be a lot of GNO's tonight with it being opening day of hunting season! Our church GEMS program is putting one on tonight and I have to say that I am so excited to go! Pinterest crafting, vendors for Christmas gifts, and an entrance fee that goes directly to the GEMS program are all great perks to having fun with friends.

image above found here

Last night, though, two of my girlfriends and I went to a local restaurant to enjoy some girl time and get away from the house. With all of us being stay-at-home or work-at-home moms it was very much needed.

I love these two girls because of what they offer me; encouragement, laughter, Godly friendship, and so much more! We have kids that are the same age, we are going through the same things, we go through very different things (so it's continued learning about each other) too!

I can't believe we sat at the restaurant for over three hours and just talked and ate and saved lots of money! One of the reasons we went was to celebrate birthdays! Well, this place gives great strawberry shortcake desserts for free to birthday people! We also had an Entertainment Book coupon and a coupon for free Pizza Puffs! I'm still stuffed this morning.

I need to plan more time with girlfriends because it is so refreshing and the fellowship is so needed for women because we are social beings and need to talk with more than just our families!

So thankful today {yesterday} for the GNO and for the girls that help keep me sane!!

Thankful Day 13

HUBBY!!!

Today I am celebrating hubby being alive for 32 years!

If you've never met my husband you're kind of missing out! See, he's amazing!

Not only is he firm in his faith and loves our family unconditionally, but he's pretty HOT too!

He works hard and plays hard! He loves and is loved! He's full of surprises and loves to surprise me (even if it is just getting gas in my vehicle because he knows I hate being so close to empty!)

He makes me laugh! I've only seen him cry less than a handful of times! One was because he was laughing so hard he started crying (that was this past Sunday)!

I LOVE this man with all my heart and am so happy that we are together forever! He is a superb Husband and an excellent Father.

Thanks, babe, for all you do, all you are, and all God will form you to be
! So glad we are on this journey together!

Here is Hubby letting P-man drive the new tractor!

Thankful Day(s) 11 & 12

I'm behind...I know. Yesterday was a bad day to leave the children and go write a blog post. They were getting into everything and...it was just crazy!

Thankful Day 11 :: Date Nights

As I mentioned in my previous post Hubby and I attended his Store End of the Year Celebration on Sunday evening. It was fun and I met a lot of new people. It was great to get out together and enjoy just some adult time. Even though Hubby wasn't feeling well and it was technically work for him, we still had a fun time being out of the house together. We had to drive about 30 minutes (this is his commute everyday) so we had time before and after the party just to talk and enjoy each others company.

Going to his work party gives me a chance to see how interactions happen for him everyday. I get to see how his employees and other managers relate to him. This is a rare occasion for me since I don't visit him at work ever! In my opinion he is well liked and well respected at his workplace! I love to know that about Hubby.

Date Nights don't happen often for us because of Hubby's work schedule but they do happen and when they do I am so Thankful for that time.

Snap shot of Hubby and I from a wedding a year ago!

Thankful Day 12 :: My Mom and Mother-in-Law

Sunday Night, after we got home from the store celebration there was an alarm call for the store so Hubby, even though he didn't feel well, went off to the store to check it out. I was mad, sad, and worried for him. It was 11:30 pm and we had fallen asleep only 45 minutes before. I was worried for his safety, I was mad because there wasn't someone else to take that call, and I was sad because...well, I don't know why.

I called my Mother-in-Law (because right now she's in Colorado and they are two hours behind me!). I cried on the phone, screamed my anger, and cried some more. She listened, she calmed me, and we talked for 30 minutes. I am so thankful she is there for me!

Yesterday was crazy. I was frustrated over a couple different things, mainly the house being a mess. My Mom was able to offer advice, comfort, and love in the way only a Mom can. She has always been there for me and we talk daily. We see each other often and this week she is watching my kids 3 times!! (THANKS MOM {and Dad}!) I have a great relationship with my mom and I love that! I love that I can talk and share with her. I love that we live close and talk often. My mom is very special to me and I can't be thankful enough for all she does for me! Love you Mom!

{for yesterday} Thankful Day 10

When I wanted to post yesterday my blog wasn't working all that great and I got frustrated and gave up...it was also time for me to get to bed anyway! :)

Cupcakes!! {Any Sweet Treat really!}

We have a baker in the house! I've mentioned that someone lives with us while she puts herself through college and now grad school, but did I ever mention that she loves to bake cakes? {From here on out she will be referred to as NurseC}

Cute cake for a birthday girl {photo from NurseC's FB page}

NurseC is a great cook and she makes my house smell great whenever she cooks herself dinner. But when she makes cupcakes/cake the kids want to taste...and so do I!

This past Saturday NurseC had made cupcakes for a cousin's birthday...and since it made more than 12 I got to have one...or two! They were blueberry cupcake with blueberry frosting with blueberry syrup drizzled over top. They. Were. Delicious!

I love sweets anyway! They are a weakness for me {and my teeth, just ask my dentist!}
Sunday night we went to Hubby's work Holiday Celebration and he got a bag with a ton more candy in it! I secretly hope he takes it to work so I am not tempted!

I know 'Cupcakes' is sort of a funny thing to be thankful for but being thankful for the small things can really lift your spirits when the going gets tough! Be thankful for the big things too, but don't be so focused on those things that you forget to look around at the little blessings!

Thankful Day 9 :: Lazy Saturdays

Lazy Saturdays!!

There are not many Saturday's that are lazy for me. With Hubby working retail, him being gone on Saturday's leaves me with the kids, therefore, I work too!

Today, though, I'm so thankful for Lazy Saturdays! Hubby did work today but the kids...they played really well together. I only had to raise my voice so they could hear me above their squeals and giggles and play noise! (oh, and to clean up the basement before dinner).

I was able to get a couple things done, rest (I needed that today, since this cold has taken up residence and just won't leave), cook dinner almost uninterrupted, and enjoy watching Monk and another disappointing Michigan game :(.

It was most likely my best Saturday with the kids while Hubby was working. I enjoyed every minute of it...even the uneventful trip to the library and grocery store! A first for sure!

Thankful Day 8 :: Health

Health!

I'm so thankful for the health I have. Yesterday and today I'm sick. Head cold. Migraine. Just icky feeling.

I took my migraine medicine (which I use sparingly) because I was feeling so nauseous from the migraine. Luckily it has taken care of most my problems besides stuffiness/congestion. Getting rid of that migraine has been the best thing for me today. Unfortunately, I can sometimes feel quite loopy after taking it. Thankfully, I have a great friend who will be taking P-man after school, and a wonderful Dad who will be picking P-man up from his play date; all because I don't know if I should drive in this loopy condition! LOL!

When I look back over my life of birthdays I realize that I have been sick quite a few times on my birthday. Mainly because of allergies I have and the time of year my birthday falls! Ah well, life goes on and I still had a great birthday!

Health is important and over the next year I hope to start taking care of myself a little better. At my last doctor check-up I weighed a little more and my cholesterol had risen a bit...

Time to really start working out and eating less junk. The days of burning calories just by sitting around and laughing are over...time to get real! My health is important to me and I have a wonderful husband and 3 precious kids to inspire and encourage me.

What is your favorite way to stay healthy?

Today is the day. 31 years ago I came into this world and started living life!

I do love life! Life is precious and messy and hard and joyful and meaningful and loud and so much more!

I'm thankful ::

To God for giving me life!

      To my parents for helping me grow in life!

            To my Hubby whom I love sharing life with.

                  To my kids who bring new meaning to life.

                        And, to Jesus Christ for providing a way to eternal life!

Can't be thankful enough for the gift of life!

Many Ways to say 'Thanks' :: Thankful Day 6

There are so many ways to say thanks. Not just in the many languages there are in the world but in the non-verbal and written ways of saying 'Thanks' as well.

Non-Verbal

Genuine Smile
- Have you ever been rendered speechless because you are so grateful? I have! And the first way a person is thanked for that good deed they did is by your genuine smile!

Firm Shake of the Hand - Kind of the manly way of giving a gigantic 'Thank You Hug'! Or the more appropriate way to non-verbally confirm your thanks to an employer, interviewee, aquaintence, etc.

Returning the Favor - This one can be tricky because you might have to verbally ask what they might need done but the action is really what says thanks!

Hug - A great way to thank a great friend or a family member

Kiss - Mainly a great way with the spouse! But I also kiss my kiddos as a way of saying thanks! But, not a great way to say thanks in an interview...as we learned full well from Rachel in a "Friends" episode!

Can we say AWKWARD!!??!!
Photo from Wikia

Written

Thank You Card - A simple card with a simple message that is personally written is a way to show your appreciation. People love when someone gives the extra time and thought into a card.

Email - A great way to say thanks after being interviewed or receiving a new position at a company.

What's your favorite way to express thanks? Is there any I missed that you feel should be added?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 6 of Thankful {Everyday in November}

Friends!!

I love my friends! I don't have many but the ones I have are great! Some I see regularly and others are occasionally!

I can talk to my friends about many things; good or bad I know they are rejoicing with me or praying for me!

Like most people my friends have changed throughout the years. To be honest, I hate that I have lost touch (except through Facebook and the occasional 'happy birthday' message) with everyone from high school, I only keep in touch with one person from college (besides Hubby!), but I love that I have finally found my friendship 'niche' (if you will). Friendships that are based on trust, love, faith, honesty, laughter, and sharing values. So many friendships passed have been based on one or two shared interests. The friendships were genuine at the time but we have since changed, and grown, and therefore, went our separate ways.

I'm thankful for friends old and new! The old ones have helped shape me into who I am today. The new ones challenge me in my faith and relationships, and reap the benefits of a me that is more confident in my friendships!

Thanks Friends!

Thankful Day 5 {Simply Sarah's Sisters!}

My Sisters!

My sisters were my first friends. I am so lucky to have them all living near me, still! We see each other quite regularly and enjoy each others company. We laugh together, we cry together, we cry because we are laughing so hard together!

We are unique! Check this out!

Sister 1: Born November 5. Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes.
Sister 2: Born June 29. Brown Hair, Brown Eyes.
Sister 3: (ME!) Born November 7. Red Hair, Blue Eyes.
Sister 4: Born June 5. Brown Hair, Brown Eyes.

Sisters 1 and 3 are born in the same month 10 years apart. Have different color hair than anyone else in the family and the same color eyes as our father.

Sisters 2 and 4 are born in the same month 10 years apart. Have the same color hair as our parents and the same color eyes as our mother.

We have only grown closer as we have grown older! I love you Sisters! Thanks for being there and loving me back!

There is also an "adopted" 5th sister! She is from another father and mother but we love her, love her, love her! We came to know her through Sister 2 and Sister 4 and my mom and she came to live with Hubby and I five and a half years ago as an undergrad. Her family lives in another country but she has since adopted us and we have adopted her!

We are amazing! And I am so thankful for such amazing sisters!

Happy Birthday, Sister 1!! Love you bunches and hope your day is fantastic!

Music Mondays :: Thankful Day 4

Mandisa :: Overcomer

Love this song and it's message! The main reason this song is hitting me hard right now is because of P-man's selective mutism. When we are in the car or just jammin' to the radio at home and this song comes on, I blast it for his benefit! I can only think of him and sing it about him right now! It is my prayer for him!

I know he is an overcomer! He will overcome this mutism! And the day he does I know it will be because of all the prayers sent up for him and because God is holding him and molding him for His Glory!

"Whatever it is you may be going through
I know He's not gonna let it get the best of you

You're an overcomer
Stay in the fight ‘til the final round
You're not going under
‘Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when He reminds You
That you're an overcomer
You're an overcomer"

Full Lyrics Here

Thank you, Jesus, for helping us be overcomers!

1 John 4:4
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

The victory is ours because of the Holy Spirit who is in us! WOW! I'm in tears over such confirmation for my son beating this disorder and having victory over it someday!

Day 4 of Thankful :: Everyday in November

My Kids!

I'm so thankful for
  all the love,
    all the hugs,
      all they teach me,
        all they learn,
          all they do,
            all they say,
              all their faith,
                all their jokes,
                  all the laughs,
                    all the tears,
                      all the giggles,
                        all the noise,
                          all they are,
                            all they will be,
                              -and-
                                  all they are meant to be through Christ Jesus!

What are you Thankful for today?

Thankful Day 3 {Everyday in November}

Day 3 of Thankful Thursdays :: Everyday in November

I'm am so thankful for my faith!

There are so many times in my life, as I look back, that I'm not sure how I would have made it through without faith. Sophomore year in High School and my bout with vertigo, anxiety my senior year in college, the loss of Isaac and Luke, bed rest while I was pregnant, and the list goes on!

Through all those times I found complete strength in God! I'm so thankful that I have a faith I can count on!

Thankful Day 2 {Everyday in November}

Day 2 of Thankful Thursdays :: Everyday in November

It's the weekend and normally I don't do posts but throughout November I will be doing this Thankful Thursdays EVERYDAY! Therefore, posts on the weekend! Rest assured though...they are scheduled so I didn't actually "work" on the weekend!

Today, I'm thankful for girl-time with my family! I'm off to a craft sale with my mom and sisters today and I can't wait. We do this every year. Last year was sort of disappointing with less vendors, less space to eat lunch, and the cost of lunch was higher. Let's hope this year is better!

No matter what though, we have a great time just looking at all the cool crafts and having some awesome time away from husbands and kids (Who always on this day put up the snow fence for the main driveway). I do take Sweetie, though, because she is part of the girl-time family-time now that she is older! It's so special to have a tradition with just us girls to look forward to each year!

What traditions are you thankful for? Does your family have "girl-time family-time"?

Important Dates in November :: Thankful Thursdays

There are so many important dates in November that I have to remember. As we have now hit November 1, 2013 I can't help but think of how quickly a year has passed. What I did this past year and what I have yet to do this year are at the front of my mind as I hit another year older this month. My birthday tends to bring out my reflective side.

7 - My Birthday!!
8 - Niece's Birthday
10 - Hubby's Holiday Work Party
13 - Hubby's Birthday

Whew! I'm Exhausted just by typing all that! I even forgot to put in TWO girls night outs and Thanksgiving! This is definitely a busy month, and probably more busy that what our December will be! I'm going to enjoy every moment I can though!

Day 1 of Thankful Thursdays :: {Every day in November}

Today I am so thankful for it being November! I love November, despite it's many dates to remember! Not just because it is my birthday month which means a free dinner from my parents :) ... but it also kicks off my favorite seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

November means craft shows, time with family, a couple days off school, Black Friday {which I have only done 2-3 times in the past 10 years}, Cyber Monday {which is actually in December this year}, and loads and loads of great smelling food!

So thankful for November!

Now that we have officially kicked off Thankful Thursdays :: {Every Day in November} I would like to hear from you about what you are thankful for! On Thanksgiving I will be posting all the things we as a group are thankful for! Leave your "thankful for" in the comments below any of these posts over the next 27 days

Thankful Thursdays! :: Change in Seasons

There has been a change in seasons from Summer to Fall, but let's talk more specifically about being thankful to go from scary, death season to thankful hearts season.

Yes, after today we will offically enter the season of Thanksgiving. I'm so happy! Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Halloween as long as it's kept light and fun {and candy-filled!}. My kids dress-up and we go trick-or-treating at a local neighborhood. We went to a couple churches last Saturday that had good, clean fun and games for families! But, I'd much rather be giving thanks and focus on the seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas!

To kick off this season of thankfulness I'm going to be starting "Thankful Thursdays {Everyday in November}". Yup, it's going to be Thursday everyday on the blog this month! Each day I'll bring you something I'm thankful for! I'll also be putting up my regular posts about various things but each post will contain a "Thankful Moment".

Leave somethings you're thankful for and on Thanksgiving I'll make a huge list of things in a post that all my readers are Thankful for!

Have a SAFE AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Thankful Thursdays! :: Support System

I love that my family has an unwavering support system! A cheering section that will never stop cheering no matter how hard it gets. They listen, encourage, advise, cry with us, laugh with us, make us laugh, and stand by us no matter how difficult the storm gets!

For many years our support system has been only comprised of family (immediate and extended) and church family. In the past 3 or so years, though, our supporters have grown. We now have 3 great couples (and their families) that we consider close to us and know they will weather the storm with us. They know our kids well and support them also. They are friends that not only encourage us but faithfully encourage us. I believe them when they say they are praying for us. I believe them when they say "call me anytime to talk". I believe they are genuine. And best of all, they, too, have an unwavering faith!

This past Monday I learned of another group of supporters that, although was unexpected, I wasn't really surprised. These people are cheering for P-man at school! P-man's teacher called me Monday evening to see how he was doing (he was very sad at school and when he got home I figured out it was because he had a fever). His teacher informed me of all the people who ask how P-man is doing and if there has been any progress in his communication. Even the principal of the school is concerned for him, but has faith that it (his voice) will come. The office ladies (one who babysat me when I was young and the other we attend church with) ask about him and want him to excel in school. There is overwhelming support for our family and especially for P-man at that school!

Today, I'm thankful for the support our family receives from all areas of our community and beyond!

Thankful Thursdays :: {Breaking the Silence}

I've been silent on this blog the past two days. I haven't been in a good writing mood and didn't feel much like interacting. It's been a hard week, but we finally are headed in a great direction.

P-man has been struggling at school. He won't talk with any adults and he will only whisper to one child in his class. My frustration level hit an all time high this past week when he went silent at home. From Sunday night until last night I had not heard his voice. That's 3 days without hearing him talk with actual words. We knew it was getting worse and last week had gone to his pediatrician with this looking for help.

His pediatrician recommended we see a behavioral health therapist to see if P-man has Selective Mutism (SM). We have that appointment soon and I can't wait to get some answers! The amazing part is, his pediatrician pre-diagnosed P-man with something I had been checking into. Something I had not mentioned to him. P-man's teacher, I learned this week, has also been implementing certain ways of coping with SM in the classroom with him. Again, I had not mentioned I was looking into this to either of them. I consider this straight from God. I had been praying that whatever P-man was going through that we {his parents, his doctor, and his teachers} would all be on the same page!  Answered Prayer!

picture found at www.selectivemutism.org

I had mentioned I hadn't heard his voice since Sunday night. Last night, he talked, and talked and talked and talked and talked. He woke up in the night and talked. He woke up this morning and talked and talked until he got on the bus. Answered Prayer! I had been praying all week for a breakthrough. It was taking an emotional toll on me; I was irritated, short-fused, and just plain angry. Not knowing where to turn for help, I turned to the only help I need...God's grace, mercy, and Love!

Today, I'M THANKFUL, for hearing my son's voice again, for answered prayers, and for the great support I find in Hubby and our parents!

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursdays {Autumn}

Fall is in the air and each morning this week, as I go to the bus stop with P-man, the air has that crispness that only autumn can provide! When I walk on the driveway to the bus on my right is the sunrise and on my left is a gorgeous tree that provides a real time-time elapse of the changing of colors through this season!

What's your favorite part of Fall?
